Root TAO stakers receive part of each subnet's validator rewards. Cutting that allocation would normally reduce their share. To prevent this, eTAO automatically adjusts the subnet's effective TAO weight when the owner changes the split. Root stakers still receive the same share they would get under the default split. For example, if the validator share falls from 41% to 20%, the effective TAO weight can rise from 18% to 43.9%. Root still receives about 5.4% of the subnet's emissions.
