Conviction locks and subnet ownership

Locking α builds conviction on a schedule set in the chain's own source — including the 18% takeover threshold.

Locking buys weight, over time

α can be locked on a subnet. Locked α matures into conviction gradually rather than counting in full immediately, so weight has to be earned by waiting.

The unlock and maturity rates are read from the chain, never hardcoded — they correspond to roughly 90-day and 30-day half-lives at the values currently on chain.

The takeover threshold is 18%

Ownership can change hands when conviction reaches 18% of the eligible α. That figure comes from reading the runtime's own source, and eligible α is the outstanding α less protocol-held and burned α.

Published figures of 10% elsewhere do not match what the chain actually does.

Why the projection is trustworthy

The decay model is a direct port of the runtime's own function, including its clamp on the exponent — which means it floors at a very small positive number rather than at zero.

It was checked against every real lock on chain, and reproduces the stored state exactly at zero elapsed time.
