Benchmarking video upscaling: Vidaio, Bittensor Subnet 85.
About SN85 Vidaio
We’re taking a deep dive into the results of our benchmarking tests on Vidaio, our Bittensor Subnet 85. This post will focus solely on our video upscaling model. Video upscaling is the process of converting lower-resolution video (e.g. HD) to a higher resolution (e.g. 4K) by intelligently adding detail, sharpening features, and enhancing visual quality using algorithms, and in our case, AI. This makes the output appear perceptually closer to natively high-resolution footage. ‘Perceptual’ is the key word here. We are aiming for high perceptual quality, essentially how visually pleasing or natural the video appears to the human eye. There are a number of metrics that can capture video quality, we will focus specifically on perceptual quality metrics. Looking at our ‘organic‘ workflow, how a user would upscale a video through our website, we use the metric ClipIQA+. ClipIQA+ is a ‘no-reference perceptual quality metric’, meaning there is no source material to reference the output against, as we are taking a low-resolution file and upscaling it. It has been trained to holistically analyze video, taking into account: Spatial features (image detail and sharpness) Temporal consistency (motion smoothness) Distortions (e.g. blur, noise, compression artifacts) The end result is a single score that correlates closely with human perception, making it the perfect quality assessment tool for organic jobs on our subnet. For this test, we used the video clip ‘Ducks Take Off’ (as seen on our website). This is the perfect test sequence as it’s visually rich, temporally dynamic, and perceptually challenging. So let’s get to the results……. We used our base mining code (seen on the results as ‘Vidaio’ and available on our GitHub) against FFmpeg (open source encoding and processing software) and two major players in the space, HitPaw and Topaz, who offer AI upscaling solutions. The ClipIAQ+ scores (higher is better): Vidaio: 0.469712Topaz: 0.46581FFmpeg: 0.408382HitPaw: 0.363682 As you c

SN85 Vidaio at a glance
SN85, Vidaio (α token ᚱ), is one of the independent markets on the Bittensor network, each with its own α token and its own price. Its α currently trades at 0.005466 τ (≈ $1.24), against 13,118 τ of pool liquidity. On-chain, the best-delegated validator on it yields about 1.5% APR, emissions add 0.000410 τ to the pool each block, epochs run every 360 blocks. It was registered at block #5,258,781.
