Why Quality of Experience (QoE) Is the Only Metric That Matters
About SN85 Vidaio
In video processing, we talk a lot about bitrate, codecs, compression ratios, latency, and delivery protocols. But fundamentally and the only question that truly matters to our clients is: Did the viewer have a good experience? That question defines Quality of Experience (QoE), and it drives everything we do at Vidaio. What Is QoE? QoE (Quality of Experience) is a perceptual measure of how a human viewer experiences a piece of video content. It’s not just about technical quality, it’s about how it feels to watch. QoE considers: Visual clarity (sharpness, contrast, temporal smoothness)Compression artifacts (blurring, ringing, ghosting)Motion fidelityConsistency over network variationsDevice capability (low-end phones vs 4K TVs) A video with a low bitrate and small file size can still achieve high QoE, if optimized intelligently. Likewise, a high-bitrate video can deliver a poor experience if the wrong parts of the frame are compressed incorrectly. Why Traditional Metrics Fall Short Historically, video quality was measured using objective, mathematical metrics: PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio)SSIM (Structural Similarity Index)These work great in lab settings but don’t align with human perception. At Vidaio, we care about metrics that reflect what a human actually sees: VMAF (Video Multi-Method Assessment Fusion) — created by NetflixLPIPS (Learned Perceptual Image Patch Similarity)ClipIQA+ — a modern, no-reference model using CLIP to mimic human vision These tools are not just theoretical. We use them to train, validate, and reward our AI compression and upscaling models on Subnet 85. Why QoE Is Everything Users don’t care about codec names. They care about how it looks.Streamers don’t want high bitrate. They want happy users at low cost.Enterprise clients don’t want complexity. They want results that scale. QoE is what ties all of that together. It’s the ultimate benchmark for: Compression qualityUpscaling performanceNetwork delivery efficiencyViewer retention and en

SN85 Vidaio at a glance
SN85, Vidaio (α token ᚱ), is one of the independent markets on the Bittensor network, each with its own α token and its own price. Its α currently trades at 0.005466 τ (≈ $1.24), against 13,118 τ of pool liquidity. On-chain, the best-delegated validator on it yields about 1.5% APR, emissions add 0.000410 τ to the pool each block, epochs run every 360 blocks. It was registered at block #5,258,781.
