Validators and the reference miner follow a task change published by the owner API, on a cycle boundary, without a restart. Previously a task change was a code release plus a coordinated restart. Validator switches at the start of Train; the in-flight round is dropped. Miner I/O polls at Distribute, 20 blocks earlier, so both sides commit the new group at the same MinerCommit1; the training loop rebuilds in place. Task state (config, expert assignment, score aggregation, baseline refs) is per-task, so two tasks cannot bleed into each other across a switch. An unreachable owner, a bad bundle or a failed rebuild all leave the node on the task it has, logged, to retry next cycle. Also: optional per-source split and text_template on dataset sources (both unset in the field, both byte-identical when unset); parquet footers read over range requests instead of downloading whole shards; an optional cap on the in-shard eval offset; and a test asserting every deployable expert group's sources have a registered shard-pick policy. Rehearsed over four task switches on a dedicated rig, including one where the dataset itself changed.
