The Data Problem Holding Back Humanoid Robots | OpenRoboto

About SN80 OpenRoboto

OpenRoboto is building an open competition for robot intelligence on Bittensor. Robot hardware has advanced rapidly, but capable general-purpose robot models remain a major constraint. OpenRoboto gives miners shared base models and training data, evaluates their improvements, and promotes the strongest models as the starting point for the next generation of competition. In this episode, the OpenRoboto team explains how miners improved performance on the LIBERO-Pro robotics benchmark, why they introduced real-robot validation to address the simulation-to-reality gap, and how their evolving benchmark is designed to make overfitting increasingly difficult. The conversation also covers Shift, OpenRoboto’s network for collecting real-world egocentric robotics data. Contributors use stereoscopic wearable devices while performing real work, creating structured training data that can be sold to data buyers before eventually entering an open data pool for model research. The result is a proposed flywheel between two systems: an open research competition improving robot models, and a real-world data network generating both training data and revenue.
