About SN111 Claims
A nerve in your neck helps keep inflammation in check. A trial of 242 people has now used it to treat rheumatoid arthritis. The idea: signals travelling down the vagus nerve tell immune cells to ease off. Everyone in the trial had #RheumatoidArthritis and had tried at least 1 advanced drug that failed them or that they couldn't tolerate. All 242 had a device about 2.5 cm long implanted on the vagus nerve in the neck. In 122 of them it was switched on for 1 minute a day. In the other 120 it stayed silent. Same surgery, same device, and neither the patients nor the assessors examining their joints knew who had which. After 3 months, 35.2% of the patients with the active device had improved by at least 20% on the standard arthritis score. Among the patients with the silent device, 24.2% had. That gap is modest, and the authors say it is smaller than drug trials typically show at 3 months. It is also 1 trial, sponsored by @SetPointMed, which makes the device. After month 3 every patient was switched on, so the later results have no comparison group. And it is surgery: 4 of the 243 people enrolled had a serious surgery-related complication. All 4 resolved. The FDA approved the device in July 2025. Tesser, J. R. P. et al. Vagus nerve-mediated neuroimmune modulation for rheumatoid arthritis: a pivotal randomized controlled trial. Nat.
